The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) Chairman, Me. Justice R. Okoye and his team met with the Progressive Movement for Imo Petroleum Dealers and Marketers during a courtesy visit to the Service. on the 30th of October 2024. The visit which aimed at fostering collaboration and enhancing the revenue growth of the State took place on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.
The IIRS boss welcomed the representatives and commended them on their tenacity.
He however mentioned the low compliance level of some of their members.
In defence, the group stated that they had been compliant prior to 2023. Mr. Okoye requested for a comprehensive list of members and evidences of tax payments from the group for effective monitoring to ensure compliance.
He emphasized the importance of payment of director’s fees and the timely remittance of Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax, clarifying that non-compliance could be deemed as tax avoidance or evasion.
The IIRS Chairman also revealed that a Tax Management Solution system will be launched soon to provide more efficient tax payment options and encouraged the group to educate its members on the benefits of tax compliance.
