The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, in line with the 3R mandate, has secured a strategic collaboration between the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Imo State Government through the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) to conduct Joint Tax Audit exercises across the State.
The Executive Chairman of FIRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji communicated his approval of the Joint Tax Audit Exercise via letter which was signed and conveyed by the office of the Coordinating Director, Emerging Taxpayers Group.
The Imo State Government, through the office of the Executive Chairman IIRS, Mr. Justice Okoye (FCA) expresses its profound appreciation to the Executive Chairman of FIRS, for his visionary leadership and continued support toward deepening inter-agency cooperation in Nigeria’s Tax System. Special commendation is also extended to Mr. Kabir Abba, Coordinating Director Emerging Taxpayer Group and Mr. Olugbenga Daniel, Director, Emerging Taxpayers Department – South, for their active role in facilitating the Joint Audit Framework and ensuring its successful rollout in Imo State.
This partnership is a proactive step toward strengthening tax administration and ensuring that taxpayers in Imo State comply with their statutory obligations. The Joint Audit Exercises will enhance revenue generation, promote transparency, and encourage voluntary tax compliance among individuals and corporate entities.
Accordingly, the initiative will not only streamline tax processes but also foster cooperation between the State and the Federal Tax Authorities, reduce audit overlaps, and improve data accuracy for fair and efficient tax assessments.
The Joint Tax Audit clearly underscores Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to fiscal discipline and improved internally generated revenue (IGR) as part of his broad economic reform agenda. By working in tandem with the FIRS, the State aims to build a more robust tax culture, reduce revenue leakages, and channel funds toward meaningful development projects that benefit the citizens of Imo State.
