In readiness for year 2025, the Acting Chairman, Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye has rolled out a 2025 corporate plan for the Service. This was done during a Staff training held on Saturday, 9th November 2024.
In his address, the Chairman highlighted the present status of the Service, the challenges on ground and desired outcome. He urged staff to embrace teamwork in alignment with the Service’s core values to achieve collective performance.
The training included several facilitators who addressed key topics, including Principles of Taxation, Work Culture and Ethics, enhanced understanding of tax laws amendments, overview of updated IIRS platform and the new Revenue Management System deployed.
During his address, Mr. Okoye emphasized the importance of maximizing revenue collections. He acknowledged improvements in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) but noted the poor performance in the State’s GDP, highlighting the need for increased productivity.
While identifying several challenges affecting revenue generation, Mr. Okoye outlined corporate goals and strategies aimed at eliminating these challenges and enhancing IGR performance for 2025. These include taxpayer awareness and sensitisation, restructuring and reform of organisational processes, as well as implementing effective debt recovery strategies, reforming audit procedures, deploying automated systems, and establishing a reliable taxpayer database.
The IIRS boss mentioned ongoing efforts to automate the Tax Management System, improve staff salaries, and enhance welfare packages, all of which are aligned with providing incentives to boost effective, efficient, and target-driven performance.
