The Executives of Owerri Supermarket Association paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) on Monday, 14th October 2024.
Discussions were held regarding the harmonization of levies for supermarkets across the state. The delegation led by Mr. Sunny Ezenwugo, appealed to the IIRS boss, Mr. Justice R. Okoye, requesting the consideration of a unified levy structure to simplify tax obligations for supermarkets.
In his response, the Executive Chairman welcomed the delegates and emphasized the importance of inclusivity in establishing a fair and comprehensive assessment structure. He noted that meaningful discussions and agreements on harmonized levies should involve supermarket owners from across Imo State, ensuring a collaborative approach to the assessment process.
Okoye further advised the association’s executives to compile a comprehensive list of supermarkets in the state, including the contacts of all supermarket owners, to facilitate effective communication and inclusiveness.
This agreement to harmonize levy assessments is intended to curb illegal revenue agents and streamline the tax and levy payment process, making it more accessible and convenient for supermarket owners.
The IIRS remains committed to working with stakeholders across the state to create an efficient and transparent revenue system that benefits both business operators and the government in order to increase internally Generated revenue (IGR).
