Mr. Justice R. Okoye, Acting Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), has cited that technology is the way to go for effective revenue generation.
He said this during a courtesy call to the Imo State Commissioner for Education (Primary and Secondary), Prof Johncliff .C. Nwadike
In line with using technology for effective revenue generation, the IIRS boss stressed that the new Revenue Management Solution (RMS) deployed by the Service aims to streamline and modernise revenue collection, ensuring efficiency and accountability.
Mr. Okoye emphasised the critical role schools play in the States’ revenue generation, highlighting need for the Ministry’s support and collaboration for seamless revenue generation.
Professor Nwadike appreciated the IIRS interest in collaboration, noting that a united approach on revenue matters would be mutually beneficial to both parties and assured the Chairman of the Ministry’s commiittment. He urged the Service to bring up more strategies to minimize revenue leakage and maximize Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Mr. Okoye in response, underscored that the RMS would effectively close revenue gaps and eliminate revenue leakages. He proposed that Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) should be required for admission in schools. This would expand the tax base and strengthen the State’s revenue structure.
