IIRS CHAIRMAN MEETS WITH THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION (NBA) OWERRI BRANCH

The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Justice Remijus Okoye has met with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Owerri branch.

The meeting which held on Wednesday, 4th of September 2024 at IIRS Headquarters was to collaborate with the Association on sensitising their members and taxpayers on the need to pay stamp duty on documents such as: Power of Attorney, Lease agreements, Tenancy agreements, Affidavit, Wills/Codicils, notarized documents, etc. and Capital Gains Tax on profit from sale of assets, foreign currencies etc in Imo State in order to drive the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

In response, the NBA Chairman, Barrister Chris Ihentuge pointed out that tax obligation is a necessity for economic development, stating that a lot of people purchase assets without paying for the necessary taxes and duties.

The IIRS Acting Chairman urged the Association to encourage their members to obtain Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC) and comply with the necessary tax obligations.
He promised to assist the association whenever the need arises and looked forward to more partnership with them.
