IIRS CHAIRMAN VISITS IMO COUNCIL OF TRADITION RULER IN A BID TO BOOST REVENUE

The Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice Okoye, paid a courtesy visit to the Council of Traditional Rulers at the palace of HRM Eze (Dr.) E.C. Okeke (CFR), Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers. The visit was part of a strategic effort to strengthen partnerships aimed at improving tax compliance and boosting revenue generation in Imo State.

During the meeting, Mr. Okoye expressed deep appreciation for the invaluable contributions of traditional rulers to the state’s development. He emphasized the critical role they play as custodians of culture and leaders within their communities. Highlighting the importance of collaboration, he went ahead to sensitize the royal fathers on withholding tax and capital gains tax.

The traditional rulers welcomed the initiative and pledged their support in driving awareness and compliance within their respective domains. They acknowledged the importance of sustainable revenue generation for the state’s economic growth and committed to exploring practical ways to implement the tax policies effectively.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Okoye thanked the traditional rulers for their warm reception and willingness to partner with the IIRS. He expressed confidence that this collaboration would yield positive results in enhancing tax compliance, optimizing revenue collection, and fostering economic development in Imo State.
