Imo State Housing Corporation Pays Courtesy Visit to IIRS – Seeks Strengthened Synergy on Revenue and Housing Development

The Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Justice Remigius Okoye, received the Managing Director of the Imo State Housing Corporation, Barr. Raymond Ucheoma, and his team during a courtesy visit to the IIRS Headquarters in Owerri.
During the meeting, the Executive Chairman commended Barr. Ucheoma for his ongoing efforts in repositioning the Housing Corporation in line with the developmental agenda of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma.
Barr. Ucheoma expressed the Housing Corporation’s readiness to deepen collaboration with IIRS, particularly in the areas of compliance, revenue generation, and structured housing delivery. He emphasized the mutual role both institutions play in actualizing the Governor’s vision for urban renewal and investment in the housing sector.
Justice Okoye used the opportunity to revisit key resolutions from a previous meeting held on November 14, 2024, which include:
• The mandatory use of the Revenue Management System (RMS) for all financial transactions;
• Enforcement of Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) requirements for all dealings and documentation;
• The remittance of Capital Gains Tax details, especially concerning property disposals.
The IIRS Chairman noted with concern the poor implementation of these agreements and a sharp decline in remittances recorded in May. He called for immediate corrective measures and more accountability from the Housing Corporation.
In response, Barr. Ucheoma acknowledged the gaps and attributed the drop to economic ripple effects. He pledged greater compliance and proactive steps toward meeting revenue expectations.
As part of resolutions reached, the IIRS will conduct a refresher training for staff of the Housing Corporation to reinforce understanding of revenue procedures and compliance standards.
Justice Okoye concluded by reaffirming the IIRS’s commitment to supporting all government agencies in improving internal revenue generation, urging the Housing Corporation to lead by example in transparency and system adherence.
