IIRS VISITS FIRS ON PROPOSED JOINT AUDIT

The Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye (FCA), led a team of Staff on a visit to Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Owerri, for a Strategic meeting on modalities for the joint tax audit exercise, slated to kick start in January 2026.
The meeting deliberated on steps to make the process seamless.

The FIRS team led by Mr Olugbenga Alabetutu expressed readiness of the FIRS to establish a symbiotic relationship with IIRS for the exercise.

Mr Gbenga in his remark, noted that maximum taxpayers awareness and enlightenment programs will go a long way to sensitize taxpayers on the recent development. He also outlined the benefits of the exercise which will pave way for transparency, reduced tax evasion/avoidance by taxpayers, save time, cost and also increase tax compliance which will boost revenue generation, both at the Federal and State Level.

Mr Alabetutu applauded the Executive Chairman of IIRS for the exceptional achievements attained, while assuring full cooperation of FIRS to make the Joint Tax Audit a laudable success.

The Chairman thanked Mr Gbenga and his team for being hospitable as he expressed gratitude to the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his giant leadership strides in connecting Imo State and FIRS, He also appreciated the Executive Chairman of FIRS, Mr. Zacch Adedeji for his efforts in ensuring the joint tax audit becomes a force to reckon with.
