ANAN Pays Courtesy Visit to IIRS, Calls for Deeper Institutional Collaboration

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), marking a significant step toward strengthening professional collaboration and partnership.

The meeting commenced with the introduction of members, after which the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice Okoye warmly welcomed the delegation.

Speaking on behalf of the visitors, the ANAN Secretary expressed gratitude to the Governor for appointing Justice Okoye as Executive Chairman of IIRS. He also commended the Chairman for the notable strides achieved in revenue generation across Imo State. Highlighting the purpose of the visit, he emphasized ANAN’s commitment to advancing the science of accounting through strategic collaborations, noting that partnerships with institutions like IIRS are essential to achieving this goal.

He further encouraged IIRS staff who are members of ANAN to actively participate in the association’s meetings and activities.

In his response, the Executive Chairman, Justice R. Okoye (FCA) appreciated the ANAN executives for the visit, stressing that stakeholder engagement remains a critical driver of revenue growth. He noted that the responsibility of revenue generation does not rest solely on IIRS but requires collective effort from key stakeholders, including professional bodies.

According to him, the growth in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has contributed significantly to addressing various developmental challenges within the state. He acknowledged the vital role professional organizations such as ANAN, ICAN, and CITN play in the taxation ecosystem, reaffirming IIRS’s openness to meaningful collaboration.

The Chairman also granted approval for IIRS staff who are ANAN members to attend the association’s monthly meetings, held on the last Thursday of every month. He concluded by appreciating ANAN’s contributions and encouraged the association to intensify its sensitization efforts to further enhance public understanding of its role and impact.
