The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) convened a stakeholders’ meeting on the implementation of the Consolidated Haulage Levy, bringing together key stakeholders across sectors involved in haulage operations, including transport, trade and commerce, livestock, and security agencies.
During the meeting, the Cyber One Systems team presented an overview of the progress recorded in the haulage sector over the years. The team explained the introduction of the Consolidated Haulage Levy and highlighted its components, namely the Haulage Levy and Haulage Tax. They also outlined the agencies and bodies involved in the administration and collection of the levy and detailed the applicable rates for different vehicle categories.
The team clarified that the Haulage Levy is payable per trip, while the Haulage Tax is paid annually. Stakeholders were given the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on various aspects of the levy. The Cyber One Systems team addressed concerns raised, eliminated ambiguities, and emphasized that the Consolidated Haulage Levy is distinct from other statutory dues and service charges that may apply under specific circumstances.
Participants unanimously underscored the importance of sustained public sensitization and taxpayer education to ensure adequate awareness, foster understanding, and encourage voluntary compliance.
Mrs. Chinwe Jude Ibemere, the Head of Human Resources, who Spoke on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service, thanked stakeholders for their participation and valuable contributions. She reassured them of the Service’s commitment to ensuring a seamless collection and enforcement process for the Consolidated Haulage Levy.
