ICAN SEEKS COLLABORATION WITH IIRS TO BOOST REVENUE GENERATION

The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) recently held a strategic meeting with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to explore ways of collaboration and partnership in revenue generation. Attendees included the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice Remijus Okoye, and the Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Chuck Chukwuemeka.

The ICAN chairman expressed gratitude for the meeting and requested incorporation into partnerships with the government for revenue generation. In response, the Executive Chairman of IIRS highlighted key initiatives, including a joint tax audit with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). He emphasized the importance of sensitization for the audit’s success and potential collaboration with ICAN.

The IIRS also underscored the need to educate taxpayers, especially Imo indigenes residing outside the state, on remitting withholding tax to Imo State, an area where ICAN’s expertise could be valuable. The Commissioner of Finance emphasized the goal of increasing Imo State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and working towards upcoming tax reforms. He encouraged ICAN to submit ideas for consideration.
