IIRS, FRSC Intensify Efforts to Improve Driver’s Licence Processing in Imo State

The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) held a strategic meeting with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Driver’s License Division, Owerri, to address the persistent backlog in driver’s license processing, reduce long queues, and enhance overall service delivery to applicants.
The Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice Okoye (FCA), expressed concern over the volume of unprocessed driver’s licenses and the inconvenience caused to residents. He called for immediate practical solutions to resolve the delays.
The Head of the FRSC Licensing Division, GO Amaechi, attributed the backlog to the previously used biometric capturing machine, which significantly disrupted processing operations within the period.
The FRSC further disclosed that applicants affected by the delay may, in the interim, make use of the Joint Tax Revenue (JTR) form or apply for license reissue, in line with directives from the Corps’ National Headquarters.
Addressing the issue of long queues at the licensing center, the IIRS Executive Chairman introduced a monitoring register system. As part of measures to improve operational efficiency and accountability, applicants will be required to sign in and out during the processing cycle and this process will be supervised by the Debt Management Team of the Service to ensure transparency, proper tracking, and better coordination of service delivery.
The meeting concluded with both agencies reaffirming their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration and implementing sustainable measures aimed at improving public service delivery for residents of Imo State.
