In a unique display of inter-agency collaboration, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) and the Department of State Security (DSS) Imo State Command engaged in a novelty football match. The friendly competition aimed to strengthen relationship between the two bodies which will in turn create a secure tax environment to encourage tax compliance, boost revenue generation and enhance enforcement activities.
The event which ended with three goals to one in favour of IIRS marked a significant milestone in the efforts of both organizations to promote a culture of cooperation and mutual understanding as well as foster a sense of camaraderie.
The IIRS, empowered by extant law to assess, collect and account for revenue through effective strategies is committed to improving compliance and optimizing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Imo State.
The DSS Imo State Command, on the other hand, has been working closely with the IIRS to provide support and ensure the safety of revenue collection processes.
In his remark, the IIRS Chairman, Mr. Justice R. Okoye stated that the Service continues to explore innovative ways to boost Imo State’s revenue collection. Collaborations between the IIRS and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Imo State will play vital roles in achieving this goal. By promoting a culture of tax compliance through collaboration, the State’s economic development and prosperity will be further enhanced.
