Mr. Justice Okoye, Executive Chairman of IIRS, warmly welcomed the Imo Bankers’ Forum, which included representatives commercial banks in Imo State.
The chairman opened discussions by enquiring on challenges faced in payment of taxes which include: inconsistency in withholding tax remittance, network instability, and confirmation of Tax Clearance Certificates (TCC) presented by taxpayers to the banks.
Solutions like dedicated link for TCC confirmation, processing of payments during off-peak periods, enlightenment and awareness for bank staff and processors, consistent payment of taxes would help reduce these challenges.
Mr. Okoye informed the meeting that the new Tax Management Solution being deployed will streamline tax payments, reduce errors and make tax compliance more effective.
The meeting underscored the importance of synergy between the IIRS and banks to enhance taxpayer experience and foster smoother transactions. Mr. Justice Okoye thanked the banks for their partnership, emphasizing that this collaboration will strengthen the state’s financial infrastructure and benefit taxpayers.
