NATIONAL UNION OF ROAD TRANSPORT WORKERS (NURTW) MEET WITH IIRS ACTING EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN

To enhance sustainable revenue growth in Imo State, the Acting Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye received delegates from National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by the treasurer, Comrade Emma Okere. The meeting was held on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024.

 

Mr Justice Acknowledged the relevance of NURTW in the state and commended the effort of the union in revenue generation.

He however decried the union’s inconsistency as regards remittance of their taxes.

 

The treasurer, highlighted pressing challenges encountered by the union which has led to the decline in the level of tax compliance.These include paying taxes at both the Federal and State levels, economic hardship experienced in the country and high level of insecurity in the State.

He expressed dissatisfaction on the deplorable state of some branch locations and inadequate standard parks for proper monitoring and accountability in the State.

 

The IIRS Chairman informed the union of the new tax management solution which has been effectively deployed.The IIRS Chairman sought for maximum collaboration from the union which will foster digital compliance and increase the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
