IIRS PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE HON. COMMISSIONER FOR BUDGET, ECONOMIC PLANNING, AND STATISTICS

The Acting Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning, and Statistics, Hon. Anslem Anyanwu Ezechinyere, at the State secretariat. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties and partnership between the Ministry and the IIRS to support the growth of the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

During the meeting, the Chairman highlighted the implementation of a new Revenue Management System (RMS) to enhance efficiency in tax collection and management.

In his remark, the Hon. Commissioner pointed out the need to review and adjust certain tax rates and laws to enhance compliance in order to boost the IGR of Imo State.

Hon. Ezechinyere further suggested that the IIRS collaborate with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to harmonize and reconcile taxes collected by the two agencies.

The IIRS Chairman assured the Commissioner that the relevant tax laws will be revisited and reviewed. He emphasized that the new Revenue Management System (RMS) will play a vital role in addressing existing challenges, ensuring greater transparency and effectiveness in revenue collection in the state.
