The Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye has flagged off a road enforcement exercise aimed at eradicating fake vehicle papers and increasing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). The operation, which will run from Tuesday, November 12, 2024, to Wednesday, December 11, 2024, brings together a Joint Task Force comprising the IIRS, the Nigeria Police Force, and Federal Road Safety Corps.
During a briefing held with the Road Enforcement Team on Friday, 8th November 2024 , the Chairman emphasized the importance of professionalism and civility throughout the exercise. He charged all personnel involved to ensure that citizens are treated with respect and fairness, while carrying out the exercise in accordance with the law.
The Chairman expressed deep concern over the alarming statistics of fake vehicle papers and highlighted the need for a robust intervention. He further noted that the exercise will not only eliminate the proliferation of counterfeit documents but also contribute to strengthening the state’s revenue base.
The IIRS is committed to working with all stakeholders to create a transparent and accountable system that benefits both citizens and the state. All residents and vehicle operators are encouraged to ensure compliance by obtaining genuine and up-to-date vehicle papers, drivers licence and insurance documents.
