NO PAYMENT REVERSAL, IIRS WARNS BANK TELLERS

The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) on June 5, 2025, held its second quarter stakeholders’ meeting with commercial bank representatives to address challenges surrounding the use of Remita and PayDirect platforms for state revenue collection.

During the session, the Executive Chairman, Justice Okoye (FCA), issued a clear directive that no payment reversal will be made for transactions processed into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) via Interswitch. He emphasized that with the adoption of the new Revenue Management System (RMS) featuring unique Reference Numbers, payment errors are now drastically reduced.

He urged bank tellers to ensure all transactions are thoroughly verified before submission and, in the rare case of a payment issue, to report it immediately through the official WhatsApp channel before the transaction is fully processed.

Also discussed was the simplification of teller processes via the RMS platform, including the easy generation of the IMBSSN Number.

Mr. Brendan Nwogu, Head of the Revenue Accounting Department, clarified that Local Government fees should no longer be paid into the state TSA, but rather into the respective LGA IGR accounts. He assured participants of ongoing efforts to harmonise LGA collections for greater efficiency.

The Chairman concluded by commending the bank representatives for their continued partnership and urged them to uphold professionalism and courtesy in service to Imo State taxpayers.
