In a bid to enhance revenue collection across all sectors of the economy in Imo State, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) organized a one-day capacity training session for Chairmen of the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the State. Also in attendance was a representative from the Department of State Services (DSS).
Facilitated by Compumetrics Solutions Limited, the revenue collection and management system providers, the training was aimed at equipping the Chairmen with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively monitor the daily e-ticketing and market tolls in their respective LGAs for optimum revenue generation.
During the session, the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Mr. Justice R. Okoye, emphasized the importance of the e-ticketing system in enhancing transparency and improving revenue collection at both local and State levels. He also added that the electronic collection of market tolls and levies will eliminate revenue leakages and give rise to increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He requested for a comprehensive list of markets, market tolls and levies as well as agents for these collections from the LGA Chairmen in order to facilitate the system’s implementation.
The training will continue as the new collection system is deployed in the LGAs and in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) across Imo State.
